As fire investigators we have all investigated a fire or multiple fires where we just couldn’t identify the cause. We followed the scientific method, we ruled out several potential causes and we also identified a cause or more that we could not rule out. Have you considered the possibility of a clandestine drug laboratory? Based upon information that will be presented to you in this seminar you may learn that one of those undetermined fires was a clandestine drug lab.

Some of you are saying “We don’t have drug labs in Massachusetts”. WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!

As the course material will present clandestine drug labs are far more prevalent than any of us are aware. With the ongoing heroin/fentanyl epidemic going on people are looking for any way possible to manufacture their drug of choice for less money.

A separate and parallel topic of Fire Standard Compliant Cigarettes will be presented by Jim DeSimone of Massachusetts Department of Fire Services. Massachusetts is still experiencing fires attributed to cigarettes classified as “Fire Safe”. Through test burns on our practical day and Jim’s presentation we will discuss the on-going problems with these cigarettes.
